ZTE, Huawei in Separate Network Deals with Optimus of Portugal
March 05, 2010
China's ZTE has been contracted by Optimus of Portugal to deploy its SRD (Software Defined Radio) multi-mode solution, so as to optimize Optimus's current 2G and 3G services and create a migration path from GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) to LTE (Long Term Evolution), CCTIME reported on February 23. ZTE is expected to supply its SDR RAN (Radio Access Network), NMS (Network Management system), and OSS (Operation Systems and Software) for this project in four regions of central Portugal.

In a separate deal, China's Huawei Technologies has deployed an all-IP FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence)-enabled IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching) backbone network for Optimus, Global Times reported on March 4. The new backbone network, capable of boosting network traffic flow, is expected to enhance both Optimus's fixed and mobile services. Equipment provided by Huawei for this project include NetEngine 5000E core routers and NetEngine 40E universal service routers, as well as the bearing network for fixed and mobile operations alike.
